DOC NIL / THE PATTERN ATLAS

Observe the rule.
Explore the possibilities.

Seeds, scales, fivefold geometry and the space around a mark. Different studies reveal different relationships—and different ways to compose.

STUDY 01 / PHYLLOTAXIS

THE ARRANGEMENT OF GROWTH

An angle.
A field of possibility.

Sunflower seed arrangements often show interweaving spiral families. This model places each new point at a constant angle and a radius proportional to the square root of its index.

A mathematical phyllotaxis model, rather than a measurement of the illustration. Real plants show variation.

A mathematical model of growthα = 360° / φ² ≈ 137.507764°

OBSERVE THE RELATIONSHIP

Small changes.
Another rhythm.

r = c√n
θ = nα
α = 360° / φ²

STUDY 02 / FIVEFOLD ORDER

AN EXACT GEOMETRIC RELATIONSHIP

Five sides.
One recurring ratio.

In a regular pentagon, a diagonal divided by a side equals φ. The relationship is exact. The architectural drawing beside it is an original composition inspired by fivefold geometry.

STUDY 03 / THE COMPOSED WHOLE

A FRAMEWORK FOR DESIGN

From a relationship
to a point of view.

The golden division offers one way to compare areas, spacing and emphasis. On an existing logo, a proportion overlay is an exploratory reading. The original construction and the final design remain their own story.
